According to a release, 13 staff membere were informed Friday that theier jobs wouldbe eliminated, effectiver July 2. Authority spokesmajn Peter Hancock said in an intervieaw Monday that the policy director position also will be eliminated as executivwe staff positions are reduced from five to Barb Langner will move out of that position to servde as actingMedicaid director, according to the release. Hancockj said that the authority’s operational budget has been cutby $3.5 million for the fiscal year that begins July 1.
According to the the authority also is reducinb spending with the contractor that processes claims for paymenr under Medicaid and theStates Children’s Health Insurance Program. That move is expectedr to save $3.6 million. Savings from the contract reductionx are shared with thefederal government, whicyh funds more than half of Medicaid administrative costs, accordingy to the release. The authority is responsible for coordinatingt a statewide health policy agenda that incorporatesd effective purchasing and administration with health promotion All health insurance purchasing by the state is combinec underthe authority.
The authority also is responsiblr for compiling and distributing uniform healtyh care data to provide healthcare payers, providers and policy-makers with information regardingh trends in the use and cost of healtbh care for improved decision making.
